I've decided to write a blog on one of the most mentally scary situations, that I decided to place myself in after 18 months of consideration.

In parkour we're used to coming across movement that takes courage, focus, commitment and determination. Placing ourselves in tricky situations is what we do for fun, to realise what we can achieve, and once we realise, we repeat for a sense of happiness, and to then go one step further than before. We contentiously go out to find physical puzzles. Your friend loves a Rubik's cube? Your parents love a 2D puzzle on the table? Well we like to figure out the various ways of overcoming and playing with obstacles and environments. Can I get over the road in just 2 strides? Can I climb to the top of the tree in 10 seconds? Can I find 10 different ways of jumping over the wall? The possibilities are endless.

For the vast majority of practitioners, the risk in every move is calculated, where we have good reason (through continuous practice, as with any sport/discipline) to believe the outcome will be successful. There's a growing number of professionals within parkour, both qualified coaches and performers, so risk for these guys can be taken even more seriously, because their bodies provide their income. Injury = no class/performance = days/weeks/months off. Most movement within parkour can be attempted time after time after time, where if at first we don't succeed, we try again, but some movement can only be failed in certain ways, for example you can only fall forwards and not backwards, because falling backwards would mean falling into a river. Most practitioners train for fun, (because if it's not fun, then why are we doing it?!), it's a priority. There's several ways to gain this simple feeling, here's a few,

1. Training/playing with friends.
2. Exploring new training grounds/cities/country's.
3. Maintaining/building upon/regaining mental strength.
4. Maintaining/building upon/regaining physical strength.
5. Testing/improving upon ones abilities.
6. Facing fears.
